Artist Statement

My work embodies mind manifesting by depicting an inner universe that symbolizes the mind and psyche. I've always had an over-active imagination and I often daydream as a way to escape reality. I’m trying to create works as I see them in my head, I can visualize images or part of an images and I become attached to these mental sketches. Part of my process, before I begin to work, involves gathering references and creating an outline of my mental sketch. I incorporate various elements into my work including portraits, motifs, symbols and objects. I work with acrylic, watercolour and gouache, along with exploring textiles, punch needle and embroidery. I use my mind as a way to conjure ideas. By combining my subject matter together, I create alternate realities that explore my mind and psyche.
